Why Strength and Song?

Quotes and Lyrics that inspire me, and inspired the birth of this blog:

The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

Exodus 15: 2

~

Praise be to the LORD,
   for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The LORD is my strength and my shield;
   my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
   and with my song I praise him.

(Psalm 28, Book of Psalms, Old Testament.)

My Jesus, my Saviour
Lord there is none like You
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love

My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You

Shout to the Lord
All the Earth, let us sing
Power and majesty
Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name

I sing for joy at the work
Of Your hands
Forever I'll love You
Forever I'll stand
Nothing compares
To the promise I have
In You

'Shout to the Lord' by the Australian band Hillsong (1998)

Jesus be the centre
Be my source be my light Jesus
Jesus be the centre
Be my hope, be my song Jesus
Be the fire in my heart
Be the wind in my sails
Be the reason that I live Jesus, Jesus
Jesus be my vision
Be my help
Be my guide Jesus

The Canticle below is taken from the Morning Prayer liturgy of the Northumbria Community. I have begun using their liturgy in 2015 as it is both brief and situates me in the Lord's presence, requisite things in a house with interruptions when the Church of England Daily Office is not always available. Northumbria also have a beautiful set of Complines.

Canticle
Christ, as a light
illumine and guide me.
Christ, as a shield
overshadow me.
Christ under me;
Christ over me;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Be in the heart of each to whom I speak;
in the mouth of each who speaks unto me.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Christ as a light;
Christ as a shield;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.
(I love the symmetry of this, and of course the cross shaping.)
